Azores Tea from São Miguel Island

The scent of fresh and exotic greens embraces the senses providing a warm and comforting reunion.

The first news that is known about tea in the Azores dates from 1801, from which it can be concluded that at the end of the 17th century this plant was known in the Azores. This news is the first reference to the presence of the tea plant in Portugal.

The oldest, and currently only, tea plantation in Europe is in Azores and still cultivates this wonderful product that is tea, keeping, since then, the original traditions of the Orient as well as the ancient qualities.

The tea plantations in Azores harbor the precious leaves.
Handpicked, organic. Green tea and black teas varieties blooming in nature.

The plant grows hundreds of miles away from industrial pollution in the lush emerald green hills of the Gorreana estate in the Atlantic island of São Miguel (Azores) without the use of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides dyes or preservatives, due to the fact that the natural tea plagues do not survive on the islands climate.

While in S. Miguel you can harvest tea throughout the year, the spring production is the one that gives the best.

The only factory currently in S. Miguel produces green tea (Hysson) and black tea (Orange Pekoe, Pekoe, Broken Leaf and Moinha).
